Chapter 10

 

What do you get when you cross an angry bounty-bunter crime lord, a painful leg, and two Jedi?

The pickle we were currently in.

Reyjin and Zenla both drew their lightsabers and got ready for a fight. Kykkin simply gestured for his soldiers to lower their weaponry and advanced toward us. 

"I can't say I'm surprised to see you here, Winera," he droned. "Just surprised to see you with Jedi."

"Get used to my surprises. There are many of them." I kept my blaster pointed at him.

He shook his head, clicking tongue. "Always had the flair for drama. You haven't changed much."

Reyjin and Zenla were staring at me, but I ignored them. I can't focus on them right now. 

"On the contrary, I've actually changed quite a bit." I spin my blaster lazily. 

Kykkin is up to something again. 

He's stalling. 

So will I.

Reyjin sidled up to me. "He's up to something," she mouthed. I barely nodded. 

"Nothing good, probably." I shrugged. 

Kykkin took a step forward. I pointed my blaster at him again warningly. 

He stopped. "Last chance to surrender, Winera. I don't want to have to hurt you."

I acted like I'm considering. "Hm. Almost sounds tempting. But, nah, I'm okay."

"I'm warning you!" Kykkin took another step forward. "All of you."

"Never." Zenla shook her head vehemently. 

"Nope." Reyjin twitched her lightsaber.

I simply shook my head. "Not this time."

"Still haven't forgiven me?" Kykkin smirked. That old expression brought back so many old memories- no. 

Not right now.

"No, I haven't. I never will either." I still felt her hand slipping out of my grip. 

"No?" Kykkin's smirk seemed to widen. "I have no regrets."

My anger flared out of control. "No regrets about leaving your daughter to die?" The scars on my wrist and forearm burned. "Do you have no conscience?"

Before he could reply, I opened fire on him.

Painful.
